The GFC Nomination Committee is seeking academic staff members to fill vacancies for the following committees. 
Note that some committees have been modified, as just approved by GFC. You are encouraged to review the list and consider nominating yourself and/or your colleagues (with their permission). You are free to nominate for a specific committee or make a general nomination. All nominations including a few sentences on why the individual would be appropriate should be directed to Jodie Gallais (, Director, University Secretariat. If there are more nominations than vacancies for a specific committee a vote of GFC members may occur.

GFC Research Planning Committee

  • Three (3) Academic Staff Members* (terms will be staggered between 1-2 years)
    • One (1) Faculty of Arts & Science
      • One (1) from Social Sciences
    • One (1) Faculty of Health Sciences
    • One (1) School of Graduate Studies

* Members will normally hold an appointment at the senior Associate or Full Professor level and provide evidence of a sustained track record in ideally at least three of the following:

  • Obtaining external funds to support their research, creative, or scholarly endeavours, including provincial, Tri-Agency (Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council), or other federal funding;
  • Participating as a review panel member within the past 10 years for an external funding agency at the provincial, national, or international level;
  • Serving as a Director of a research Centre or Institute for more than three years;
  • Supervising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students and/or post-doctoral fellows;
  • Acting as a Director in an external research-focused organization (for example, PolicyWise or Alberta Gambling Research Institute).

Academic Staff member is defined within the GFC Bylaws as: "Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, Lecturers, Professional Librarians, Instructors, and Academic Assistants holding appointments at the University of Lethbridge. For the purposes of these Bylaws Adjunct or Emeritus appointments shall not be considered to be Academic Staff."


GFC Nomination Committee 

Effective November 1, 2019 the new GFC Nomination Committee will assume responsiblity from this sub-committee.

The GFC Nomination Committee is a sub-committee of the Executive Committee and ensures the replenishment of GFC committees and other committees requiring representation from GFC.

The Nomination Committee will ensure the best possible match and broadest possible base of representation for all committees.

The Nomination Committee will make all recommendations to the Executive Committee who in turn will make the recommendations as per the GFC Bylaws to Council.

The Nomination Committee Comprises:

One student of the Executive Committee and three of the academic staff members of the Executive Committee will serve as the Nomination Committee. These individuals will be elected by the Executive Committee at their October meeting or when required due to vacancy.
