About the New Media Department
In recent years, computer-related technologies have become an integral component of most businesses and industries. The University of Lethbridge's Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) New Media degree enables students to explore these digital technologies from two perspectives, functional as well as creative.
Faculty members involve students in critical inquiry by provoking thoughtful debate and discussion about the role of new media technologies in society. Students become familiar with the existing historical, social and political literature, while also considering the influence of popular culture, thereby broadening their understanding of how technology contributes to art, business, education, and entertainment.
Faculty members typically share their research activities, enabling students to work in an innovative and continually changing learning environment. Student experiences are further enhanced by the collaborative relationships that the department has forged with other fine art departments, typified by the development of the Audio Research Lab, in conjunction with the Department of Music.
