2017-2018 Ensemble Audition Information

 

Global Drums! - Percussion Ensemble

Audition Date: No Audition Required. Register as a course or through Recreation Services.

Rehearsal Times: Thursdays 7:00-9:00 pm/Classical Ensemble Wednesdays 4:30-6:00 pm

Room: W470

 

Jazz Ensemble - Director, Dr. Josh Davies

Audition Date: September 8, from 1:00-4:00pm in W470

  • Sign-up sheet for auditions will be posted outside W752 in the University Centre of the Arts at least one week before the audition. Previous ensemble members do not need to re-audition, unless attempting to move in the section or instrument.  If you would like to stay in the ensemble without re-auditioning please send an email no later than Thursday, September 7th at 5pm.
  • To request an audition time outside of 1-4pm, or to maintain your placement, please contact Josh Davies at josh.davies@uleth.ca

Rehearsal Times: M/W from 4:00-5:30pm in W470

Audition Requirements

Each audition will be approximately five-ten minutes in length and consist of the following: 

  • Winds, Brass and Voice

  • Prepared piece of your choice demonstrating a jazz style. This can be a transcribed solo, etude, or previous ensemble music.
  • Scales demonstrating range.
  • Possible sight-reading and improvisation demonstrations may be requested. 
  • Rhythm Section

  • Be prepared to demonstrate comping in multiple jazz styles.  This can include transcribed solos, etudes, previous ensemble music or jazz standards.
  • Possible sight-reading and improvisation demonstrations may be requested. 

*note – rhythm instruments are provided at the audition if needed.  

 

University Singers - Director, Dr. Janet Youngdahl

Audition Date: September 5, at 7:00pm in W756. 

Rehearsal Times: M/W from 4:30-6:30pm in W480

First Rehearsal: Wednesday, September 6, 5:00pm in the Recital Hall

  • Please sign up for a brief audition, sign-up sheets are posted on the bulletin board near W-756.

Audition Requirements:

  • Plan to sing a VERY brief song (accompanist provided) or to sing ‘O Canada.’

Please bring music for the accompanist.

 

University of Lethbridge Wind Orchestra Audition 2017-18

Audition Date: Wednesday September 6 10-2pm

  • Sign-up sheet for auditions will be located outside W750 (starting August 31). If you are required to schedule your audition outside of the time reserved (due to class conflict or lack of available slots) please contact cheemeng.low@uleth.ca

Rehearsal Times: Tu/Th from 4:30-6:30pm in W470

First Rehearsal: Thursday September 7, 4:30pm

Audition Requirements:

Mandatory for all new students and those who were not in the 2017 Spring Wind Orchestra

Each audition will be approximately five minutes in length and consist of the following:

  • Solo Material(s) of your choice demonstrating both technical and lyrical performance ability
  • Sight Reading

Returning wind orchestra members that wish to compete for the position of the section leader.

Each audition will be approximately five minutes in length and consist of the following:

  • Solo Material(s) of your choice demonstrating both technical and lyrical performance ability
  • Interview

Section leaders will be announced during the 2nd rehearsal, after competing in the audition and under the recommendation from each studio instructor. They will responsible for establishing and running sectional rehearsals and to communicate with the conductor regarding musicality issues.

No audition required for returning members (you must be a member of the 2017 Spring Wind Orchestra)
