Lisa Doolittle

Research/creative activity: Lisa is a performer, choreographer, writer and teacher. She worked as an independent professional dancer and choreographer for 15 years in Canada, the USA and Italy before obtaining an interdisciplinary masters degree in Movement Studies at Wesleyan University. She joined the Department of Theatre Arts in 1989. She teaches courses in movement, dance, global theatre and dance, performance creation and community-based theatre for development.

Lisa has created and directed many university and touring productions and has led participatory theatre projects on health, management and cultural diversity in Lethbridge, in London UK and in Malawi. She produces an annual series, Now Showing Live Arts, featuring professional theatre and dance productions from Canada and beyond. Her award winning television documentary - Dancing Bodies– led to a multi-year research project on dance, multiculturalism and human rights in Canada, funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. A recipient of the 2007 CAFA Distinguished Scholar award for work that contributes to the wider community beyond the university, Lisa was also named University Scholar from the Faculty of Fine Arts for 2008-2010.
