The University of Lethbridge teacher education program involves learning through a combination of dynamic theoretical and practical experiences. A 5 year combined degree; first you choose a teachable subject to complete your first degree and then apply to the Faculty of Education after 2 to 3 years. Once in the Faculty of Education, you receive 27-weeks of practical classroom experience in a broad range of schools from rural to urban and teaching K-12. You will develop a strong knowledge base in the subject area you intend to teach, both general and subject area instructional methods. You may choose a wide variety of subjects in which to develop a major and minor concentration and expertise, and you may also specialize in areas like Early Childhood, Technology or Special/Inclusive Education.
With a focus in Dramatic Arts, you have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the insights of playwrights, concepts of directors and designers, interpretations of actors, organization of stage managers, and expertise of theatre technicians are all part of the intoxicating appeal of live theatre. You study aspects of theatre performance and production as well as history, theory, and criticism. You also participate, in some capacity, in major Department productions.
