Post-Diploma Bachelor of Fine Arts (Art) (2 years)

The Post-Diploma Bachelor of Fine Arts (Art) offers a perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in Art. In addition to the required core courses, you are required to complete a minimum of 20 courses, including 12 courses in Art, at the University of Lethbridge.

Students in the Post-Diploma Bachelor of Fine Arts (Art) may choose from one of two majors:

  • Art Studio major
  • Art History/Museum Studies

Art Studio Major

As BFA (Art) student with a major in Art Studio you are exposed to all areas of traditional and emerging art media

  • Painting
  • Drawing
  • Sculpture
  • Printmaking
  • Computer-based art
  • Audio art
  • Video
  • Installation
  • Performance art
  • Digital and analog photography

As a 3rd and 4th year student you get your own studio space (which doesn’t happen in many undergraduate programs!). In advanced and senior studio courses you choose your professor – someone you want to work with and have mentor you.

You have access to spacious and well-equipped facilities that allow you to undertake projects with expert technical support, creative guidance, and critical dialogue.

You can meet more than 50 national and international artists, architects, curators and designers who speak on campus every year. Many are willing to visit your studio to discuss your work, which is a valuable learning opportunity.

Art History/Museum Studies Major

A BFA (Art) student with a major in Art History/Museum Studies is the only degree program in Canada to combine history and theory with extensive hands-on experience at the undergraduate level. The program concentrates primarily on nineteenth to twenty-first century European and North American and First Nations Art History.

As part of your program, you intern in public galleries and museums to gain valuable, career-specific experience and work with the University’s renowned teaching collection of over 13,000 objects.
