Architecture and Design Now
Architecture and Design NOW is a core course offering in the Department of Art and is built upon an extensive program of Visiting Speakers in Architecture and Design. The course may be taken twice for credit as Art 3210 Architecture and Design NOW and Art 4210 Architecture and Design NOW.
In 1996, a series of Visiting Speakers in Architecture and Design was inaugurated. Presentations representing architecture, landscape architecture, urbanism, planning, sustainability, graphic design, product design, furniture, digital design processes, fashion, and areas of craft practice, have generated wide interest. The series focuses on architectural and design practitioners, but includes, as well, architectural historians and critics, design critics, curators and writers. Speakers draw audiences of Lethbridge architects and an interested public. Supported by funding from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and the Department of Art University of Lethbridge, the Architecture and Design Now series has contributed significantly to developing discourses around architecture and planning in Lethbridge. At the same time, critical awareness, appreciation and enjoyment of contemporary design has been extended. A complete list of Visiting Speakers in Architecture and Design is available here.
