About

Katie Marie Bruce graduated from the the University of Lethbridge in 2011 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts (Distinction) and achieved a Masters of Fine Arts (Print Media) from York University in 2015, where her thesis project was supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. Her work explores the affective/affected body, and the intersection of emotional and non-performative labour. She has exhibited across North America and in the UK.

At the root of her practice is the examination of empathy as a connective tissue — articulated materially in large scale embroidered works, etchings and other print-media, as well as lost wax bronze sculptures. Her current body of research-creation looks to combine feminist readings of Object Orientated Ontology, with images of the female nude that challenge notions of the muse as a consumable object of desire.
