Provided by Medalta and the Faculty of Fine Arts, this award is intended to allow an undergraduate student in Art to attend a one-month artist residency with Art Students from across Canada in a dynamic group setting at the Medalta Artist Residency and Historic Clay Works, located in Medicine Hat, Alberta. The recipient will be selected on the basis of demonstrated excellence in art, a strong interest in ceramic art, and in experiencing an intensive artist residency. Apply with a letter of intent expressing your interest (max 500 words), a portfolio of 5-10 images of recent works with descriptions, an artist or research statement, and a resumé or CV. Value: 1 month residency (incl. 24-hour personal studio access, exhibition opportunities, firings, use of shop glazes), accommodations at MHC, stipend of $1,000, and exhibition of work in the U of L Art department.
Eligibility: Full-time student in the BFA or BA Art major undergraduate program at the time of application (Spring term), but does not need to be enrolled during the residency period. Previous experience with ceramic as a material is not necessary, but will be seen as an advantage. A strong desire to explore ceramic as material in art making is required.
