Accessibility

Standards for Barrier-Free Access have evolved considerably over the last four decades and where possible, as capital projects proceed, we renovate to the best practice standard for accessibility. We are committed to improving the way students, faculty, staff and visitors access and navigate our campus, regardless of their age, background, interest or ability.

In addition to minimum Building Code requirements, the Province of Alberta has guidelines for Barrier-Free Design which were prepared through the Safety Codes Council. The guide is entitled Design for Independence and Dignity for Everyone: Vision, Hearing, Communication, Mobility, Cognition.

All new construction is designed to meet or exceed requirements of the latest building codes in order to achieve best practice levels.
