2018 uLethbridge Parking Permit Lottery | FAQ

For the upcoming academic year September 2018 – August 2019, student parking permits will be drawn through a lottery system.


·         uLethbridge has one parking space for every 2.6 students — the highest ratio per student of any university in western Canada! The average number of spaces per student at the universities surveyed was 1:4, and the highest was 1:7.

·         A significant number of Pay and Park spaces will be added to Lot E. We will share the exact number once confirmed. This will not decrease the number of overall parking passes sold; in fact, it will increase the number of parking permits sold since there will be more rotation.

·         Students living in residence will park in Lot N, not in Lot E, allowing for better use of parking stalls that rotate frequently.

·         There will be no additional parking permits issued to uLethbridge staff. As staff leave the institution, their passes will return to the staff parking pass pool but the number available to staff will not increase.

·         You can share a single parking pass with up to two friends; however, only one student can be registered to the pass. Any parking tickets, lost pass etc. will be the sole responsibility of the purchaser.

If you wish to share a pass, email or stop by the Campus Mobility office at TH101 with your student ID, license plate number, as well as the make and model of your car and your friends. You will need to state in your email, and sign a document indicating that you take responsibility for your friends when using the pass, which will then be registered in our system.

·         Priority on the waitlist will be given to students outside of Lethbridge and bus zones. The address listed on your student record will be used to determine residence.


We had hundreds of conversations last year with students and parents during the parking permit sale process. Many of the conversations included that the current process was unfair because students were required to take time off work; those who were away, live in a rural area or on reserve, or lack access to reliable/high-speed Internet were at an unfair disadvantage; the passes sold out far too quickly; there was a lack of trust in the software etc. It was determined that lottery was the best way to ensure all students have an equal opportunity to purchase a pass.

The exception is students with a provincially issued disability placard; they will receive parking passes. For more information, see the section on accessibility parking below.


To be eligible for the permit sale you need to be an admitted student at the University of Lethbridge by July 11, 2018 by 4 p.m.

Your offer of admission must be accepted and your tuition deposit received to be included in the lottery by July 11, 2018 at 4 p.m. Please take into consideration the expected delivery date of your tuition deposit, considering the length of time for mail delivery through Canada Post and online banking processing times.

Students living in residence will apply for a parking permit during their Check-in through Housing Services.


Eligible continuing and newly admitted students will enter the lottery though a customized email link from Campus Mobility Services (, which will be sent on Monday, July 16.  

You will have till Friday, July 20 at 12 p.m. to complete the lottery form including your preferred parking lots ranked in order of preference. There is no advantage to submitting your requests earlier or later during the above period – every request submitted will have an equal chance of being granted a permit. The permit request form can only be submitted once.

If you do not receive an email with a link, first check your junk folder. If it isn’t there, contact for assistance.


You will be notified of your lot assignment or if you have been placed on the waitlist on Monday, July 23 via email to your uLethbridge account.


Once you have been notified of your lot assignment you can complete / reserve your permit by paying with Visa / Master Card, or bill student account.

You will need your uLethbridge username and password to enter the website; have your vehicle information (make, model and license plate number) accessible. 

If you charge your student account, pay at the Cash Office by cash, cheque, debit, or via online banking. Your student account will be charged the day you reserve the permit. If not paid for in full, by August 1st, 2018 interest will accrue each month.


The permit can be mailed to your home address or picked up at the Campus Mobility Office (TH101) starting August 27 — student ID card and signature required for pick-up.


Permits not fully completed or reserved by Friday, July 27 at 11:59 p.m. will be forfeited and assigned to the next person on the waitlist; it is a single waitlist, with no lot classification, and is cleared annually on April 30th each year. 

If a permit is forfeited you can still add your name to the waitlist at, select Permits – Student / Employee tab, login and select waitlist. 

Check your uLethbridge email account regularly; you will be sent an email if a permit has become available and will have 48 hours to complete payment.

 If you have a disability placard and need a uLethbridge permit, contact Campus Mobility Services; you will be charged the cost of a Lot N permit (lowest price on campus) but may park at any of the accessibility spots on campus. A copy of your provincially issued placard and vehicle registration is mandatory.


Lot Q permits can be refunded until September 24. All other permits can be partially refunded throughout the term of the permit at the Cash Office.
