Office Moves

Scheduling

  1. A move schedule will be posted [Departmental moves]
  2. As long as the contents of your office are packed, you do not have to be on campus on move day

Boxes

  1. You must use the boxes that are provided as these materials fit our equipment, ensuring a smooth transition
  2. We will provide boxes two weeks prior to your specified move date
  3. Contact us if you would like to start packing earlier; boxes will be delivered
  4. Additional boxes are available through your faculty contact [Departmental moves]

Packing

  1. You are responsible for packing your own belongings
  2. You are encouraged to use this opportunity to purge items and documents that are no longer useful
  3. Bins for garbage and recycling can be placed in the hallways [Departmental moves]
  4. Prior to the move, it is advisable that you take any personal effects home, especially if they are fragile
  5. We are not responsible for damage to non-university property
  6. With the possible exception of file cabinets, all furnishings in your current office will be left behind. Your new office will be equipped with the Standard allotment of University Furnishings.
Your Desk
  • You will be provided with a desk at your new location
  • Please remove all contents from your old one and place in a box provided
    • Mark it "Desk Contents"
    • Fill in address labels that we provide TO: [new room number] FROM [old room number]
    • Put your name on it
File Cabinets
  • If your file cabinet is to be moved, you will need to remove the contents as follows
    • Four drawer cabinet - remove items from top two drawers
    • Three drawer cabinet - remove items from top drawer
  • Label boxes appropriately
  • Close file guards tight
  • Lock the cabinet, if you have a key
    • Tape key to the top of the unit
    • Mark cabinet with tape TO: [new room number] FROM [old room number]
    • Put your name on it
Stationery Cabinets and Collators
  • Pack contents into provided boxes
    • Indicate what the contents are
    • Fill in address labels that we provide TO: [new room number] FROM [old room number]
    • Put your name on it
Bookcases, shelves, books, papers and loose files
  • All existing bookshelves stay in the existing officePlace into provided boxes.
    • Indicate what the contents are
    • Fill in address labels that we provide TO: [new room number] FROM [old room number]
    • Put your name on it
Computers
  • Staff will provide assistance with disconnecting and reconnecting your computer on the day(s) of your move and will relocate them into your new office
Telephone
  • Your telephone and your current number will be moed to your new office by Telecom on the day of your move
    • Should there be a problem please contact them at 2129
Unpacking
  • As you unpack your boxes we ask that you put your boxes in the hallways so that we can recycle them
  • Bulletin boards and white boards will be installed several days after the move
  • Moving staff will come by and discuss the locations with you prior to installing
