The Department of Sociology and the President's Office welcome visiting lecturer Bruce Uditsky as he presents Deathmaking and disability: The Case of Robert Latimer.

When Robert Latimer murdered his daughter, national surveys reported a majority of Canadians understood or supported his actions. Uditsky asks, "How is it these Canadians were more able to identify with a calculated child murderer than with Tracy, the murdered child? What are the implications when the elimination of people with disabilities, whether by modern genetic technologies, poverty, lack of access to health care or murder is accepted and even welcomed?"
