This is the entry point into a series of pages that will eventually describe various layouts and layout designs.
First, we have the situation at the beginning of 1999. I will call this the Old Layout.
In early February I began using 3rdPlanIt to design a new layout. At this point, I had changed rooms and essentially have free reign to design a layout in a room with the approximate dimensions of 9' by 14'.
I now want to play around a bit with some alternative ideas for the room. I still am more comfortable thinking in terms of table tops rather than in terms of a fully designed girder system.
Using the table top idea (which will still allow for changes of elevation - perhaps using the Woodland Scenics Subterrain system) I have identified the following principles to guide my first efforts:
- I want as much table space as possible.
- I should have a maximum "reach" of about 2 feet. That is, everything on the table should be within 2' of where I can stand. This means, for example, that I can have a 4' "peninsula", so long as I can walk around
both sides.
Here is the link to some ideas for a table top configuration in the New Room.
