Admission Requirements - B.Ed.

PREREQUISITES:

You must have completed:

• a minimum of 20 semester courses (60 credit hours)
• minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 in the semesters containing the last 20 semester courses (60 credit hours), including transferable courses; Admission GPA minimums
• a designated number of courses in your major-- usually 8 for a single discipline major and 11 for a general major -- prior to admission to the Faculty of Education;
• a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 out of 4.0 on courses in the major;
• Education 2500 (Orientation to Teaching) with a favorable recommendation from the instructor;
• the Writing Proficiency requirement;
• any special admission requirements designated for your major.

COMBINED DEGREE PROGRAM:

The University of Lethbridge Teacher Preparation Combined Degrees Program is a five-year 50-course program where students complete a minimum of 30 courses in one of a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Management, and 20 semester courses in a Bachelor of Education. When students successfully complete all of the requirements, they are conferred with two degrees. The requirements of both degrees must be met before either degree is conferred. HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Students who are applying to the Combined Degrees program directly from high school will need to meet the general entrance requirements to the University of Lethbridge. AFTER DEGREE PROGRAM:

The Faculty of Education also offers a B.Ed. program for students who have already earned an approved undergraduate degree with a major in a 'school' subject (a subject taught in the public schools). A B.Ed. as a second degree may be completed in as few as 20 courses, including Education 2500.

TRANSFER STUDENTS:

We welcome students who wish to transfer to our teacher education program from other universities or from a transfer program at a college. You may be admitted directly to the Faculty of Education if you have already completed 20 courses, including 15 Arts and Science courses and five appropriate Education courses. With fewer transfer credits you may apply to the "Pre-Education" program in the Faculty of Arts and Science, Fine Arts or Management to complete the required prerequisites prior to entering the Faculty of Education.
