Northwest Aquatic and Marine Educators Annual Conference, "Aqua Connections"Northwest Aquatic and Marine Educators (NAME) serves as a network for aquatic and marine educators and professionals from Alaska, Washington, Oregon and British Columbia who have an interest in and dedication to aquatic environments. NAME conferences, workshops and field trips provide opportunities to share educational experiences and expertise in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. NAME is a non-profit chapter of the National Marine Educators Association.

* Extra tickets will be available for purchase at the conferenceSessions: In the afternoon of Friday, August 15th, choose amongst six 2.5 - 3 hours mini-workshops, ranging from hands-on teaching activities to stimulating interactive sessions, following a short opening presentation. Then move into the informal poster-style session, the "Share-A-Thon", in which marine and aquatic educators and organizations will share a broad range of current curriculum materials, teaching activities, and demonstrations. Gather great ideas and resources while meeting and interacting with fellow NAME conference participants. On Sunday, August 17, take in a full day of marine and aquatic concurrent sessions with hour-long and hands-on presentations. Topics include innovative curricula, research, educational trends, classroom activities and much more.

Reception at Vancouver Aquarium
While mingling with NAME conference participants, nibbling on delectables, and sipping wine or non-alcoholic drinks, explore and learn about the Vancouver Aquarium's education programs, resource materials, and of course, the exceptional exhibits. Starting the evening, Dr. Phil Nuytten will talk on his life's work in the development of marine technology, including the Newtsuit.Curriculum and Resource Fair (Sea-Faire)
Held in conjunction with the NAAEE resource fair, visit the displays of marine and aquatic related organizations, groups, institutes, and agencies.Social Hour, Silent Auction, Dinner, Auction and Closing Dance
Join us Sunday evening in establishing permanent Aqua Connections. We'll start with a hosted social hour and silent auction, then move into a festive banquet with the closing ceremony. We'll then open our doors for people to join in the lively and entertaining NAME auction. And, in true NAME tradition, this will be followed by a dance featuring the band Marimba Muzuva who celebrates the rhythms of Africa - everyone will want to dance to the new and ancient music of Zimbabwe.Field trips (not included in registration fee) will be on Saturday, August 16.

EECOM is a multi-sectoral, multi-regional network of Canadian environmental educators dedicated to the development and promotion of environmental education in Canada. Its primary objectives are:· to strengthen and improve environmental education in Canada and to foster a greater awareness of environmental education among Canadians;
· to encourage communication and information exchange among Canadians involved in environmental education;
· to provide training and educational opportunities.
We will start with our EECOM Banquet on the Friday evening, with Chuck Hopkins as our Keynote speaker. During the day on Saturday and Sunday we will have presentations and workshops, in several concurrent strands. There will also be an Annual General Meeting of EECOM late Saturday afternoon, and several other business meetings. By Sunday afternoon we'll be wrapping up in time for EECOM attendees to take part in the main NAAEE conference.
EECOM members can also take part in NAAEE field trips and other special events running through the rest of the conference by registering for both conferences.

In the spirit of "Weaving Connections: Cultures and Environments," this year's NAAEE conference will feature an Environmental Youth Conference. It will be held in Vancouver at the same site as the main conference, from August 14th to 16th, 1997. Open to interested youth 14-18, the conference will be a dynamic environment where youth can showcase their enthusiasm and commitment to ecological sustainability and environmental education. It will create partnerships where both youth and adults will learn from each other. Youth from diverse cultural backgrounds will bring their ideas and concerns to the conference. The sharing of voices between the two conferences will be a new and exciting innovation and will create a prevailing legacy for future conferences.Space is limited, so for registration material, please write to:

A printed list will be included in your conference program, NO other participant list will be published.
