Children's & Young Adult Literature

Awards:

  • Canadian Children's Book Centre Book Awards -- The Book Centre maintains a comprehensive and up-to-date list of Canadian book awards for the writing and illustrating of books for young readers.  Lists finalists and winners from previous years too. This site also includes Canadian children's choice book awards from each province or provincial group.
  • Database of Award Winning Children's Literature Awards links -- Explanation and links to 50 awards across five English-speaking countries (United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom).
  • LearnAlberta.ca on our Digital Resource Subscriptions site (username and password required) contains 3 comprehensive literature websites (including some Canadian content and authors), found in the Online Reference Centre:
    • Novelist K-8 Plus and Novelist Plus (grades 9-12) ("Your guide to reading") -- Book Reviews, Award Winners (including all Canadian awards), Recommended Reads, Book Discussion Guides, Book Talks, Picture Book Extenders, Author Biographies, Book Lists, Feature Articles, and Genre Outlines. These sites include standard reviews under each title.
    • Teachingbooks.net ("Sharing the spirit of books and reading") -- Audio Book Readings, Author Interviews, Author Programs and Author Websites, Book Guides, Booklists, Book Awards.
  • Canadian Library Association Book Awards and Shortlists -- Includes the three major Canadian book awards: the Amelia Frances Howard-Gibbon Illustrator's Award, the Book of the Year for Children Award, and the Young Adult Canadian Book Award.
  • American Library Association's Association for Library Service to Children's Literary and Related Awards -- Includes awards such as the Newbery Medal, the Caldecott Medal, the Carnegie Medal, the Sibert Informational Book Medal & the Coretta Scott King Book Award, and more recently the Michael L. Printz Award and the Alex Award.
  • The Children's Literature Web Guide Awards Lists  -- Claims to be "the most comprehensive guide to English-language children's book awards on the Internet", though the newer award books are not listed since 1998.
