HRC West application

Are you passionate about HR and a competitor at heart?

If you answered “yes” to both, then consider applying to represent the University of Lethbridge at the 2024 HRC West Case Competition

HRC West Western Canada’s Premier HR Student Case Competition

HRC West (Western Canada's Premier HR Competition) is the first business case competition in western Canada dedicated entirely to Human Resources. It was launched in 2014 by CPHR Alberta (formerly HRIA) in response to a gap in practical learning opportunities for post-secondary students specializing in HR.

The Dhillon School of Business can only send one team to compete at HRC West and we want that team to be the best HR students that we have. We may hold a qualifier competition (contingent on interest), but first we need to know who is interested! The chosen team (4 students) will be given a coach, and will be eligible to apply for SPD Competition Funding to cover their costs.

When and where is the Case Competition?

This year’s competition is being hosted by Camosun College in Victoria BC on March 1 & 2, 2024. There is no cost for students to participate.

What makes this Case Competition unique?

The HRC West Case Competition targets aspiring HR professionals. The competition will allow you to flex your HR expertise and demonstrate your use and application of management practices and principles, analytic and diagnostic abilities, presentation skills, and overall business acumen.

What is involved?

We will finalize the team by late November and will then, as a team, determine a schedule for weekly meetings.

We will begin by learning how to approach and analyze cases, prepare presentations in a limited amount of time, and present professionally as a team. In January and February, we will continue training by simulating the case competition with new cases and use mock judges for feedback. Competitors should expect to invest 5-10 hours per week leading up to the competition (January and February).

To be eligible for the Team you need to be:

       a) registered at the University of Lethbridge for the Winter semester

      b) have taken at least one HR course and c) have completed at least one full year of study.

What’s in it for me?

•          The opportunity to represent the University of Lethbridge

•          The opportunity to hone your HR expertise, and polish your presentation skills

•          It’s a great experience and addition to your resume and portfolio
