How do I use Polleverywhere.com for summative assessments.

If you are using your poll for marks and want responses associated with users, you will have to complete a few tasks to accomplish this.

  1. Within the poll you create you must choose Registered Participants from the Who Can Respond area located on the right of the screen in the poll editing area.
  2. Have your students pre-register as participants on your account.


    You invite participants (students) by email, or distribute your registration link. They verify their mobile phone number and create a participant login for PollEverywhere. This way you can see who answered no matter what the device they use (laptop, smartphone, text message).

    To access the invitation link, choose Participants from the top of the screen.


    Then click Invite New Participants from the left side of the screen.


    Copy the link in the Share an Invitiation Link area. Paste within your email and send to your students.


    NOTE: Do not email invitations from polleverywhere.com. Even though it is an option, the email will not go through because the polleverywhere.com account does not have access to send mail to your class list.

To pull the data from a poll, you will have to generate a report and download the csv. See the tutorial on generating reports for more details.

How do I set up a poll using polleverywhere.com?

Upon logging in you will be presented with all the polls associated with the account.

In the polls section choose Create New Poll from the left of the screen.

Choose what type of poll you would like to create. Goal polls are not available in Canada, so your choices would be Multiple Choice or Free Text.

Free text polls allow users to submit words, comments or phrases and multiple choice allows you to specify a number of choices

Insert the data for the required fields to build your question.

On the right side of the screen you will notice some poll options such as the user reply message and various ways that people can respond to your poll.

It is important to check all the ways you will be asking your users to respond. For example, if you do not choose web widget, you will not be able to poll your students via a web address. Once you have filled in all the appropriate information, choose save poll.

To have your students respond, follow the instructions for each method below.

Web: Provide students with a web address which they can navigate to and click on the choice they wish to select. To obtain the correct web address, choose the Web Voting link from the right side of the screen in the area labeled Ways to Vote. Notice that when you click on this link the screen changes. This is how the screen will look to your students if they answer using the web method. Copy the URL in the address bar and send to your students.

NOTE: The URL provided by polleverywhere.com is a little long. If you wish to send a shorter url, try a service such as bit.ly or tinyurl.com. Also you can use the smartphone method from a laptop to achieve the same result. See the smartphone method below.

Text Message: If your students have simple cell phones they can text their choice. To send a text, they will have to send a message to the following number 32075.

In text message must be the following content and only the following content
– CAST #the number for the choice – Ex; CAST 565443.

When they hit send it should only take a few moments for the poll to update.

Smartphone: Smartphone users can go to poll4.com to submit their response. Upon navigating to poll4.com your students will be presented with a text field.

In the field they will need to type in the number corresponding to the response they wish to select.

NOTE: The word CAST does not need to be typed in with the number. Type in the number only when using this method.

As a student how do I login to Turnitin.com?

Your professor will supply you with a course ID and a password via email. Use this information to login at turnitin.com.

Upon navigating to Turnitin.com you will see a login area near the top of the screen. Underneath the email address field is a link that says Create Account. Click this link to continue.

Refer to the area labeled New students start here.

Click the link labeled Create a user profile.

Next navigate to the area labeled Create New Account. Choose the student link in this area.

Follow the instructions and fill in the required fields to create an account associated with your class.

How do I view student submissions via Turnitin.com

To view student submissions when logged into Turnitin.com make sure you have an instructors role by selecting the Instructor tab at the top left of the screen.

Then choose the tab my classes located near the turnitin logo.

 

Select the class you wish to view assignments in by clicking the linked class name. A list of assignments will appear. Choose to view the assignment you wish to grade by clicking view in the actions column.

From this point you can choose to grademark the paper or view the plagiarism report

If you are accessing the Turnitin Assignment via Blackboard, first you will need to make sure you have a teachers role by selecting the Teach tab. Then from the Course Tools menu on the left of the screen choose Course Content. Navigate to your turnitin assigment. Click on the assignment icon and Blackboard will automatically load turnitin as an embedded feature of Blackboard.

How does Turnitin integrate with Blackboard?

Turnitin has provided Blackboard users with a module that allows Turnitin Assignments to be created without leaving the Learning Management System.

To create a Turnitin Assignment using our current version of Blackboard, make sure you have a builders role by choosing the build tab near the top left of the screen.

From the Course Tools menu on the left of the screen choose Course Content. The Turnitin Assignment is built in this window.

At the top of the page you will notice a button called Add Content Link. Click on this button to access the options.

From the options on this menu choose Turnitin Assignment. Upon choosing this option you will notice a button called Create Turnitin Assignment.

Choose this option and you will be prompted to title your assignment and then create it.

Upon the assignments creation you will be prompted to choose options for the assignment. Notice that at this stage the options reflect an actual interaction with turnitin.com.
