50 minute one-on-one session to help you build skills and strategies to manage the top concerns of post-secondary students.

    Groups & Workshops

    All located in Counselling & Career Services unless otherwise stated

     

     

    Student Support Group

    Students supporting each other through connection. Sessions will be focused on activities to build peer connection and support. Participants are free to attend as few or as many sessions as they would like. Group will run twice weekly for one hour for the entire semester. Wednesdays at 3 pm and Thursdays at 1:40pm  Please register with front reception at Counselling Services.

    Connecting with Self and Others

    This is a process group for people curious about better understanding themselves and who they are in all types of relationships. This is a space for you to explore personal goals while reconnecting with the wisdom, strength, and resilience of both the participants and yourself. Referral by a counsellor is required to book a Group Intake. Group will run Tuesdays @ 1:40-2:40 pm  and Thursdays 4:30-5:30 pm

     

    Don’t Hesitate to Meditate Group 1

    This workshop is for students, faculty and staff interested in experiencing different forms of meditation. All levels welcome. Runs every Tuesday at 12-1 pm starting Jan 8/19 in TH277.

     

    Don’t Hesitate to Meditate Group 2

    This workshop is for students, faculty and staff interested in experiencing different forms of meditation. All levels welcome. Runs every Wednesday at 12-1 pm starting Jan 9/19 in M1030.

     

    Trauma Sensitive Yoga

This small yoga class is designed specifically for those who have experienced complex, or interpersonal trauma such as sexual or domestic violence or childhood abuse. Class sizes are small, certain postures are not used, and there are no physical adjustments offered. It is an all-levels class and is welcoming to those who have no yoga experience. You choose how and when to move your own body throughout the practice. The class instructor is Heather Rowland. Tuesday’s 7-8pm, January 8th – April 2nd. Body Image Group

This is a therapy group for anyone who has struggled with body image and disordered eating. Individuals will learn tools to identify triggers and strategies to regulate emotions. This group will run every Tuesday from 6:30pm-8:00 pm, starting on Jan 22 until March 26. Please register at the front desk to book an intake session.

This 4 session workshop series will provide students with specific tools and strategies to manage exam anxiety.

If anxiety negatively impacts your academic performance, please consider attending. The sessions will provide you with knowledge, skills and tools that will benefit you both during your university years and after you begin your career. This workshop starts on Wednesday, January 16th at 12:00pm in Room L1168 and will be held every Wednesday at 12:00pm for the next 3 weeks. You will be registering to attend all 4 sessions (January 16, 23, 30, & February 6). Each session is 50 minutes.

If this does not work for your timetable, you will have an opportunity to attend on different days and times in February/March.

This 4 session workshop series will provide students with specific tools and strategies to manage exam anxiety.

The sessions will provide you with knowledge, skills and tools that will benefit you both during your university years and after you begin your career. This workshop starts on Thursday, February 28th at 3:00pm in Room TH204 and will be held every Thursday at 3:00pm for the next 3 weeks. You will be registering to attend all 4 sessions (February 28, March 7, 14, 21). Each session is 50 minutes.

 

New 2 U- Learning How to be a University Student

Managing University life can be a challenge! New students are invited to come connect with other first year student to discuss the challenges around University life. Topics covered include, Skills 101- Managing expectations, academic success, emotional/physical wellness, and career development. Thursdays, January 17 – February 14 from 3:15 – 4:15.

 

 

Self-Care Activities for Relaxation and Release

  • Listening to positive music
  • Exercise… take a walk… go for a run…
  • Writing/drawing your thoughts in a journal
  • Access your higher power/spiritual guide
  • Breathe (i.e., in for a count of 3, hold for a count of 3, release for a count of 3 for 5 or more minutes)
  • Spend time in your safe/relaxing place real or imaginary
  • Tight/relax relaxation exercise (hold shoulders really tight for 5 seconds, then relax etc.)
  • Repeat your favorite mantra, or positive self-talk statement
  • Say: Feeling this way is temporary. Feelings change— with healthy action and self-talk
