Co-op Education and Internships (A&S)

Co-operative Education combines work experience with academic studies and has gained international recognition as the preferred way to complete a degree. It creates a partnership between the students, the University and the employer. The goal of the Program is to offer students a broader learning environment, opportunities for excellent work experience and networking with employers.

From Rocky Mountain House to Ottawa – One Co-op Student’s Journey

…I began reflecting upon my journey with Co-op and the effect that it has had on my life. In doing this, I realized that Co-op has had the very effect that every program coordinator (Co-op or otherwise) hopes that their program will have on an individual. To explain this I must go back a little further, to the beginning of my post-secondary education. I hardly gave a thought to my career – it was the furthest thing from my mind. After completing as many courses as I could at the college level I moved on to the University of Lethbridge. Shortly after I arrived I visited a career counselor. He recommended that I try the Co-op program to help me gain some insight into what kind of career I wanted to pursue.

    Student Testimonial
Co-operative education has undoubtedly enhanced my undergraduate experience. During my work terms with the Government of Alberta I have been able to apply the theoretical ideas I have studied in the social sciences and humanities while at the same time gain valuable experience and make important professional contacts. For me, a liberal arts education is a real privilege; with the addition of co-operative education to my program, I will be in a better position to give back to society.
