Social Justice Art Exhibition — The Sociology Club
Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Galileo’s Lounge, Students’ Union Building
The Sociology Club is hosting and curating this Social Justice Art Exhibition. Art on display touches on a variety of themes, including women’s rights, feminism, human rights, global politics, race and ethnicity and bodily norms. Art mediums include photographs, sculptures, clothing, sketches, paintings, videos and songs.

Cannabinoids and Development of the Brain — Dr. Diana Dow-Edwards
Tuesday, Oct. 27, noon to 1 p.m., EP1201, Canadian Centre for Behavioural Neuroscience
Dow-Edwards, Fulbright Distinguished Visiting Research Chair, is a professor of physiology and pharmacology at SUNY Downstate Medical Centre in Brooklyn, New York. Her research looks at the effects of marijuana on the developing brain.

AGILITY Innovation Series — Anil Pereira, High Tech Startup Advisor
Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2:30 to 4 p.m. and Wednesday, Oct. 28, 10 to 11:30 a.m., B610 University Hall
Pereira will demonstrate virtual reality (VR) experiences produced by Félix and Paul Studios. During 10-minute workshops, students will come face-to-face with an Apatosaurus from Jurassic World, alter reality in KURIOS-Cabinet of Curiosities from Cirque du Soleil, and walk alongside former U.S. president Bill Clinton in Inside Impact: East Africa.

AGILITY Innovation Series — Steve Cloutier, CEO, Skyridge Capital Corporation
Wednesday, Oct. 28, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Markin Hall atrium
Cloutier, an entrepreneur with 30 years of experience in law, investment and upstream oil and gas industries, will discuss the skills and steps needed to launch a successful enterprise using real world case studies.

Career Transitions — Chinook Regional Cardboard Boat Race
Thursday, Oct. 29, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., 1st Choice Savings Centre and Max Bell Regional Aquatic Centre
Teams of junior and senior high school students will have 90 minutes to design and build cardboard speedboats to race across the Max Bell pool. Judges will be looking at the design, construction, safety, speed across the pool, and weight capacity. In addition to having plenty of fun, the students learn about buoyancy, displacement, structure, strength and water permeability. The races and weight challenge are scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m.

JDC West and United Way — Chillin’ 4 Charity
Friday, Oct. 30, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Galt Gardens
Students, business professionals and local celebrities will be jumping into a pool of icy water for a good cause in the 11th annual Chillin’ 4 Charity. The U of L’s JDC West Business Team has worked closely with United Way and local sponsors to organize the annual Chillin’ 4 Charity. Since 2005, the event has raised more than $100,000 for programs to help people in Lethbridge and southwest Alberta. JDC West is a student group that participates in case competitions with teams of students from other Canadian universities.

After the Sands. Energy and Ecological Security for Canadians — Dr. Gordon Laxer
Friday, Oct. 30, noon to 2 p.m., L1102, Prentice Boardroom
Laxer, founding director and former head of Parkland Institute, is a political economist and prominent public intellectual. He’ll discuss his latest book, After the Sands, and outline a road map to transition Canada to a low-carbon society.

Syria to Lethbridge Benefit Concert
Friday, Oct. 30, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., St. Augustine’s Anglican Church, 411 11 St. S.
Funds raised through this benefit concert will go directly to resettling a Syrian family in Lethbridge. The concert features the University of Lethbridge singers, the Incanto Singers, the LCI Singers and faculty, students and alumni of the U of L Music department. Tickets are $20 at the door.
