Common Book Project launch — School of Liberal Education

Wednesday, Oct. 3, 5 to 6 p.m., AH100, Andy’s Place, Anderson Hall

The Education of Augie Merasty, a national bestseller, is the story of a child who was taken from his family and sent to a residential school where he was taught, along with thousands of other Indigenous children, to be ashamed of his heritage and where he often experienced physical and sexual abuse. Speakers at the launch include Dr. Mike Mahon, U of L president and vice-chancellor; Laura Bryan, U of L Students’ Union president; Roy Pogorzelski, director of FNMI Student Services and Elder Francis First Charger.

17th Annual Etiquette Dinner

Wednesday, Oct. 3, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., Galt Museum

The Management Students’ Society has once again partnered with Sue Jacques, a professionalism and civility expert and author of What the Fork? An Unpretentious Guide to Formal Dining for Informal People, for an evening of fine dining and learning about etiquette for professional dinners, luncheons and coffee meetings.

Friends of Health Sciences Dinner

Thursday, Oct. 4, 6 to 9 p.m., Ballrooms, Students’ Union Building

This year’s award winner is Dr. Jerome (Jerry) Singleton, a professor at Dalhousie University. Singleton was seconded to the U of L in 2015 to help develop the therapeutic recreation program. He put countless hours into creating the program content for Alberta’s first bachelor’s-level therapeutic recreation program, ensuring it meets professional standards and requirements.
