ART NOW — Don McIntyre
Monday, Jan. 18, noon to 12:50 p.m., W570, Recital Hall

McIntyre, an assistant professor in the Native American Studies department, will talk about today’s indigenous art. He is an award-winning painter and carver, in addition to being a lawyer and teacher with a passion for academics. His artwork has been exhibited around the world.

Music at Noon — Courtney V. Murias, mezzo-soprano, and Deanna Oye, piano
Tuesday, Jan. 19, 12:15 to 1 p.m., W570, Recital Hall

Murias (BMus ’09) is a proud alumna of the U of L whose education and performance career have taken her across Canada and the world. She is currently a roster artist with The Cowtown Opera Company. The recital features a collection of art songs from the last 60 years.

ART NOW — Corinne Thiessen
Wednesday, Jan. 20, noon to 12:50 p.m., W570, Recital Hall

Thiessen (MFA’14) is a multidisciplinary artist who is interested in human social activity, especially as it pertains to deviance, social norms, self-regulation and social control. Her exhibition, Factory Logic, is on display at the Southern Alberta Art Gallery until Jan. 31.

Wellness Lunch and Learn — Walk In to Work Out
Wednesday, Jan. 20, noon to 1 p.m., AH100, Andy’s Place

Dr. Jon Doan, a kinesiology professor, will talk about how active commuting provides an opportunity to get exercise while benefiting the environment. He’ll discuss plans and possibilities for active commuting to the U of L, the wellness benefits, and tips for adding activity to the Lethbridge commute.

Agility Innovation Series — Keeping Pace with Technological Change
Thursday, Jan. 21, 12:15 to 1:15 p.m., B610, University Hall

Paul Oss, a senior communications professional with the Government of Alberta, will share his experiences as a communications professional in the demanding world of government public affairs. He’ll discuss the roles of innovation and technology and how to apply them to communications strategies.

The Far-Infrared Universe — Department of Physics and Astronomy
Thursday, Jan. 21, 1:40 to 3 p.m., C620, University Hall

More than half of the energy emitted by the universe appears in the mostly unexplored Far-Infrared spectral region (FIR). It must be observed by instruments in space, such as the Planck and Herschel Space observatories that were launched in 2009. Dr. Locke Spencer, an astrophysicist, will talk about the data archives obtained by these observatories and the future of FIR astrophysics.

PUBlic Professor — The Impact of Digital Technology on Democratic Citizenship in Canada
Thursday, Jan. 21, 7 to 9 p.m., City Hall, 910 4 Ave. S.

Dr. Harold Jansen, a political science professor, will discuss digital technology and the ways this communications revolution has transformed and failed to transform democratic citizenship.

Prentice Brown Bag Event — The Case for a Lethbridge Regional Food Hub as part of the Local Food System
Friday, Jan. 22, noon to 1:30 p.m., L1102, Prentice Boardroom, Library

Dr. John Usher, a management professor, will talk about the growing interest in alternative food systems that feature food products from local producers as a way to complement the mainstream food distribution system that is characterized by a highly consolidated grocery chain industry. A food hub could help address food security issues, improve nutrition, reduce the use of pesticides, herbicides and fertilizer and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation of food.
