Matisz (BFA ’09) will talk about a series of paintings and drawings that she started when she lived in Puerto Rico, a series now on exhibit at the Trianon Gallery until March 31. The works are landscapes that Matisz explores through the lens of science and ecology.

Architecture & Design Now — Bart Willis
Monday, Feb. 22, 6 to 10:50 p.m., C610, University Hall
After spending some time at the U of L in the 1980s, Willis moved to Austin, Texas in 1990 intent on becoming a rock star. That didn’t happen, but Willis turned his interest in tattooing into a calling and then into a career. In 2002, he opened his own shop in Austin. His work is influenced by artistic styles of native North America and other Pacific Rim cultures.

Music at Noon Series — Roger Admiral, piano and Howard Bashaw, composer

Geoff Minors, a U of L technician, is a glider pilot, instructor and president of the Lethbridge Soaring Club. He also works with people with disabilities, helping them to fly in a glider.

PUBlic Professor Series — Prehistoric Bison Hunters in Southern Alberta
Thursday, Feb. 25, 7 to 9 p.m., City Hall, 910 4 Ave. S.
Dr. Shawn Bubel, a U of L archaeology and geography professor, will talk about the artifacts that have been unearthed at the Fincastle site south of the Oldman River. Along with projectile points, stone tools and bison bone fragments, a number of ceremonial bone upright features were uncovered. The site also shows a strong cultural connection between the Fincastle hunters and groups living in the Middle Missouri area.

Kumao, an associate professor at the University of Michigan, reframes ordinary gestures to explore their psychological underside. She has created a wide range of art forms, including a game interface that empowers users to hack live CNN broadcasts, provocative electronic clothing and electromechanical girl’s legs that ‘misbehave.’
