University of Lethbridge Chancellor’s Dinner to welcome Varzari, celebrate awards of distinction

Friday, May 15, 2015

The University of Lethbridge’s annual Chancellor’s Dinner promises to be a notable affair this spring as it will mark the first official event for newly installed Chancellor, Janice Varzari.

The first alumna of the University of Lethbridge to serve as Chancellor, Varzari will oversee the Thursday, May 28 event whereby a number of students, faculty and community members will be honoured.

Among those who will be celebrated are the winners of the University of Lethbridge Volunteer Award, the Alumni Honour Society inductees, the recipient of the Speaker Medal for Distinguished Research, Scholarship or Performance, the Distinguished Teaching Award recipient, the President’s Award for Service Excellence winners, honorary degree recipients and student medal winners from across the University.

This year’s Chancellor’s Dinner also marks the first time a community sponsor is involved as Galko Homes has joined the event as the Student Excellence Sponsor. Their involvement is making it possible for student award winners from each Faculty, as well as the recipients of the Governor General’s Gold and Silver medals, to attend and be recognized for their significant accomplishments.

“We’re proud to have the opportunity to share in this event and to celebrate the achievements of those who will be honoured at the dinner,” says Bruce Galts, President of Galko Homes. “Specifically, we’re excited to be able to support the student award winners and recognize the work they’ve put in and what they have accomplished during their time at the U of L.”

Limited tickets for the 2015 Chancellor’s Dinner are still available and can be purchased by visiting the Convocation website: uleth.ca/convocation/chancellors-dinner.

“Galko Homes is committed to helping improve the quality of life in the communities where we live and work,” adds Galts. “We feel it is important to support these students as they now transition into their careers, as they are the future leaders of our communities.”
