University inviting prospective students to campus for Exploration Open House, Saturday, Feb. 3

Wednesday, January 31, 2018

The University of Lethbridge is throwing open its doors for prospective students, their families and the community on Saturday, Feb. 3 for its Exploration Open House.

This is the second successive year that the University has offered a spring open house event in addition to the traditional fall open house, giving even more students the opportunity to explore campus, meet faculty and staff and discover the opportunities that await at the U of L.

“We call this open house an exploration because it really is designed for students who are just beginning to explore their post-secondary options,” says Natasha Buis Deering, director, Enrolment Services. “For students in Grades 10-11, now is the perfect time to start taking a look at what post-secondary school is all about and what is available at the U of L. And of course, for those in Grade 12 who are still deciding their post-secondary future, the Exploration Open House will answer all your questions as well.”

Saturday’s Exploration Open House takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and features a Faculty and Student Service booth fair, the chance to meet current students, campus tours and a variety of sessions to give high school students a taste of the programs offered at the U of L.

“This is designed as a very experiential, hands-on day,” adds Buis Deering. “There will be a Let’s Talk Science session, a trio of mini lectures and tours of some of our most engaging areas on campus, such as the Centre for Financial Market Research and Teaching, the Nursing Simulation Lab and the Faculty of Fine Arts.”

Any students who apply for admission for September 2018 or accept an offer of admission will receive University of Lethbridge virtual reality goggles, with admissions and program experts available to help with everything related to the application process.

Helen Kelley, associate dean, School of Graduate Studies also says that graduate student opportunities abound at the U of L. She invites all prospective graduate students to the open house to learn about program offerings, funding opportunities, student services, research centres and institutes and the facilities available at the University.
