The Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Lethbridge has established five Golden Jubilee Awards worth $10,000 each to mark the institution’s 50th anniversary in 2017.

“We are one of the founding Faculties of the University and we thought this would be a good opportunity to have a positive impact on students,” says Dr. Craig Cooper, dean of the Faculty. “One way we can do that is by offering awards of significant value.”

The Arts & Science UL50 Golden Jubilee Awards will be given to qualifying students enrolled in a four-year Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts & Science program. The recipients will be chosen based on their high school performance, financial need and the uniqueness of their personal circumstances. At least one award will be given to a student who self-identifies as a First Nations, Métis or Inuit student.

Students will be required to submit a letter that addresses their academic performance, financial needs and individual situation, along with their application and high school transcript. A letter of reference must also be attached to the application. The award will be paid out at $2,500 per year over four years, as long as eligibility is maintained.

The criteria include a high school admissions average of 80 per cent or higher. Students must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or landed immigrants and must be full-time students throughout their four-year program. In addition, students will need to maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75. More information is available on the Faculty of Arts & Science website.

Students will need a uLethbridge student ID number to apply for the award so they should first apply for admission to the U of L in a BA, BSc or BASc program. Once they have a student number, they can apply for the Golden Jubilee Award online. The deadline is March 15, 2017.
