Members of the media are invited to join Destination Exploration as it takes part in Science Odyssey, a 10-day celebration of discovery and innovation that engages and inspires Canadians of all ages with activities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Destination Exploration’s Science Odyssey event will showcase the Science of Every Day. While Destination Exploration is known for

its children’s summer camps, afterschool clubs, and in-school workshops, this event will engage adults throughout southern Alberta. The event brings all STEM lovers and aspiring scientists together for an evening of hands-on chemistry, biology and technology activities. The SOLD OUT event will have three workshops:

  • Get Clean – The chemistry behind your favourite house cleaners, shampoos, and soaps. Take home your own homemade bar of soap!
  • Eat this – Perform spherification and make fruit caviar. Extract DNA and learn the science behind GMOs.
  • Tech that – Bulk up your computer coding skills and experience some fun technology! Draw with JavaScript, program a game with Scratch, and more!

Date: Wednesday, May 16, 2018

Time: 7 to 9:30 p.m.

Location: Alberta Water and Environmental Science Building, University of Lethbridge

Visuals: Chemistry of soap making will get messy! 30 adults in lab coats, gloves and goggles. Spherification uses chemistry to make delicious treats! What are GMOs? Learn about genetic engineering and extract your own DNA! Check out our Ozobots – amazing little robots that blend the physical and digital worlds through lines, colours and codes on both digital surfaces, such as an iPad, and physical surfaces, such as paper.
