Advisory - Field exercise allows U of L geography students opportunity to survey Destination Project site

Friday, September 18, 2015

WHAT: Field survey exercise
WHEN: Monday, September 21, 1 to 2 p.m.
WHERE: Destination Project site (coulee area north of University Hall, media to gather in North parking lot)

Dr. Craig Coburn’s Geography 3710 class (Field Techniques for the Earth Sciences) will be given an opportunity to learn in the field as they conduct survey exercises on the proposed site for the University of Lethbridge’s Destination Project.

“This is a very valuable exercise for my students, something that allows them to use the knowledge they’ve acquired in class and take it to the field to learn in a real-world setting,” says Coburn. “It’s exciting in that even before the project has a shovel in the ground, we are able to use its development in an educational manner.”

Media are welcome to photograph and video the exercise. Destination Project Program Director Brian Sullivan will be available to speak to the next phase of the Destination Project’s development, while Dr. Craig Coburn can speak to the field exercise and the technical work the students are applying.
