CA Bridging

CA Bridging enables you to complete all the business and accounting classes needed for admission to the CA School of Business. Available at all of U of L campuses in Edmonton, Calgary and Lethbridge.

You do not need prior management or accounting courses or work experience. The program was designed to enable the typical student to complete within 12-24 months, while continuing to work full-time. You take only the courses you need – if you have previous accounting courses, you can complete the program quicker. Courses are offered evenings and weekends in Calgary and Edmonton, and during the daytime in Lethbridge, and are taught by experienced accounting professionals.

CA Bridging requirements

Applicants must have a four-year undergraduate degree in any discipline, unless you qualify as a CASB mature student. Those whose first language is not English, regardless of citizenship or origin, must meet the English Language Proficiency Requirement. Speaking and writing courses are available to internationally educated professionals, whose first language is not English, to learn the skills to write and speak effectively for Canadian business culture.

Financial assistance

Do you need some help funding your journey to becoming a CA? Depending on your background and employment situation, you may be eligible for one of two valuable bursaries available only to CA Bridging students. Both are awarded based on financial need.

The Flair Foundation Bursary is available to students who need to complete 10 or more CA Bridging courses and who are either working or re-entering the workforce after an absence. This award is available only to immigrants who meet specific residency requirements.

The Mike Shaikh FCA & Linda Shaikh Bursary is for students changing careers and/or who are recent immigrants to Canada and must meet certain residency requirements.

Application forms are sent directly to CA Bridging students, and currently the bursaries are awarded during February or March of each year.

These awards are provided through the Chartered Accountants Education Foundation (CAEF) of Alberta in recognition of the generosity and commitment to the CA profession of the Flair Foundation and Mike and Linda Shaikh.

CPA Merger Update

The ICAA believes it would be in the best interests of prospective students and employers to align with the rest of the CASB region and introduce the CPA program this fall, and expects to know by early June if they will be able to proceed with the CPA education.  If ICAA is not able to proceed, a suitable alternative program will be in place for students in the fall.

CPA program prerequisite courses are expected to be very similar to the current CASB prerequisite courses.

For more information on the CPA Program visit the cpa one website.
