Name: Georgia Dale
Supervisor: Dr. Claudia Malacrida
Background: BA in Women's Studies from the University of Lethbridge
Research Interests: I am interested in investigating the ways that the inclusion of individuals with developmental disabilities is articulated in the discourses of a particular service agency. I use a combination of discourse analysis and autoethnography in order to interrogate the language that circulates through the agency and informs the practices of providing services for individuals and effects their representation, involvement and sense of belonging in their respective communities.

Name: Rachel Shields
Supervisor: Dr. Jason Laurendeau
Background: BSc in Neuroscience from the University of Lethbridge.
Research Interests: Using Foucault's concept of genealogy, I am exploring the discursive (dis)continuities between The United Farm Women of Alberta in the early twentieth century and a contemporary "race realist" magazine entitled "American Renaissance". Through a critical discourse analysis I will interrogate the ways in which the liberal feminism and imperial politics of the UFWA contributed to the development of white supremacist knowledge and racial/citizenship classifications that exist today.

Name: Abe Tinney
Supervisor: Dr. Trevor Harrison
Background: I graduated from the University of Lethbridge with a BA in Sociology
Research Interests: Public welfare in Alberta.
Some questions that hold my interest: How does public welfare in Alberta differ from the other provinces and territories in the country? How relevant to Alberta is the argument that public welfare is being reformed (and has been for some time) under a neo-liberal/conservative ideology? Given the boom and bust nature of Alberta's economy, are there any connections between periods of economic booms/busts and the nature of public policy and welfare?
