About Me
I am an MRI Physicist currently working on Neuroscience application.
If you are interested in Graduate Studies or you are an undergraduate interested in Independent Studies courses or employment (summer or during the term) please do not hesitate to contact me by e-mail.
I also have previous experience and am still interested in MR Imaging of materials, Hyperpolarised Gas Imaging, Imaging of pattern forming Chemical Reaction, Self-organization and non-linear dynamics. I was part of a team to be the first group in the world to successfully acquire MRI images of the Belousov Zhabotinski (BZ) reaction and the first person to do 3D imaging of the BZ reaction (my PhD work). To see some cool images look up - Mag. Res. Imag. Vol. 15, p. 719 (1997). I have time lapse movies of this data and others in 2D and 3D if anyone is interested.
Biography
Albert is an Assistant Professor in the departments of Neuroscience. He has been a Faculty member since July 2005.
Albert was born and raised in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
BSc. (Honours in Physics) University of Saskatchewan.
MSc , University of Waterloo
PhD, University of New Brunswick
From Saskatoon, Albert went East. First to the University of Waterloo where he did an MSc with Dr. Mik Pintar studying the rotational tunneling energy levels on methyl groups using level matching NMR. After his MSc, Albert worked for Dr. Pintar for one year as NMR Lab Manager prior to moving to Toronto to work in the Toronto Western Hospital's MRI Research Lab. From Toronto, Albert moved further East to begin a PhD with Dr. Robin Armstrong in Fredericton at the University of New Brunswick. As well as getting a PhD in New Brunswick, Albert got married to another physicist, Dr. Adriana Predoi-Cross. After his PhD, Albert did a one year postdoc at UNB with Drs Armstrong and Balcom and then 3.5 years with Dr. Giles Santyr at Carleton University in Ottawa. In 2003, Adriana was offered a faculty position at the University of Lethbridge. Moving to Lethbridge was a bit of a risk but with the CCBN MRI Centre in its early planning stages, Albert was convinced that Lethbridge was the opportunity to move back west - closer to home.
Research Interests
Magnetic Resonance Imaging, MRI contrast agents and contrast mechanisms, in-vivo Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy, Hyperpolarized Noble Gas Imaging.
My main applications are neuro imaging (I am an associate member of the Department of Physics). My current research program includes using MRI to assess recovery after stroke and novel uses of MRI to investigate brain function.
