Robert Latimer and the Law (Bauslaugh_October 2011.pdf)
Speaker: Gary Bauslaugh
Date: Wednesday, October 12, 2011
Time: 4:00 p.m.
Location: C-610 (University Hall)
The Latimer case is Canada's best known instance of mercy killing. Did the punishment fit the crime in this "hard" case? The talk will explore this question as well as some of the important legal issues that were exposed by the case. Gary Bauslaugh interviewed Robert Latimer over a period of four years and helped him overturn the Parole Board's decision to deny him day parole.
Bauslaugh was Editor of the magazine Humanist Perspectives for five years, and served for a year as President of the Humanist Association of Canada. He held various administrative positions in the B.C. College and University system, and has written for a number of publications.
Everyone welcome. Refreshments provided.
