Welcome to the Department of Economics at the University of Lethbridge!
The Department of Economics consists of a diverse group of outstanding faculty and staff. My colleagues and I are committed to providing a positive, high quality learning experience for students and to help resolve problems owned by decision makers everywhere by way of our meaningful, focused research activities.
The contributions made by faculty through their teaching and research are held in high regard across the country and beyond. Relatively small class sizes ensure students can take full advantage of instruction from Ph.D. faculty members and exceptionally talented Academic Assistants, each of whom are experts in their respective fields of specialization. Not only do we publish in top-tier peer reviewed journals and present our work at the best Economics conferences in the world, we excel at communicating our research findings to non-technical audiences of all sorts. For each one of us in the Department of Economics, success is measured by the positive influence our work has on the lives of others, wherever they may be.
While students at the University of Lethbridge come from diverse backgrounds, they all share a desire to learn more about themselves and the world about them, which makes the study of Economics essential. Contrary to popular perception, Economics is not about things and material objects; it is about the meanings and actions of individuals. Economics is the study of the inevitable consequences of making choices under inescapable conditions of scarcity. This means the subject has a bearing on everybody and everything at every point in time and place. It is the pith of civilization and of our human existence. Studying Economics improves our ability to comprehend the meaning and relevance of all human action, and as such, I believe that Economics is the most important subject at the University.
I hope that our website will provide you with all the information that you need whether you are an existing or a prospective student, a candidate to a job opening, a graduate from the University of Lethbridge wanting to see how your Alma mater is doing, or simply someone curious about our Department.
