GPA Calculator

Disclaimer: Your official grade point average is located on your Academic Record. Always rely on the grade point average recorded on your transcript.

The following GPA calculators are from Dalhousie University, but can help U of L students set goals and understand the impact that grades may have on your grade point average.

In order to use these calculators effectively, you need to be familiar with the following terms:

  • Term GPA: The grade point average for all courses attempted in a single semester. You will see this reported on your working copy transcript as current GPA.
  • Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA): The grade point average of all courses attempted at the University of Lethbridge.
  • Grade Point Value: The number of grade points assigned to each letter grade. These are built into the calculators and are also listed in the Undergraduate Calendar.
  • Credit Hours: The weighting factor of the course used when determining the grade point average. Most U of L courses are 3.0 credit hours, but some courses are 1.5 or 6.0 credit hours.
  • Grade Points: The number of grade points for each course is determined by multiplying the number of credit hours by the grade point value.

Calculator 1: Calculate a term GPA based on your anticipated grades and see the effect on your CGPA.

Calculator 2: Calculate the GPA you need on a set number of courses to reach a target GPA. If you are planning to repeat a course, subtract the credit hours and grade points for the course you are planning to repeat from those listed on your working copy transcript.

Important note: Dalhousie University assigns 'A+' grades a grade point value of 4.3. At the University of Lethbridge, 'A+' grades are assigned a grade point value of 4.0 (the same as for 'A' grades). When using these calculators, select an 'A' when you have earned or are expecting an 'A+', unless you are trying to calculate your GPA for the purposes of earning Distinction or Great Distinction (see the Undergraduate Calendar for details on institutional honours).
