Culture Vulture Saturdays
FREE ACTIVITES* | DROP-IN BASIS | GALLERY OPEN
September 28, 2013 – The Exquisite Corpse – It’s that activity you’ve been doing since Grade 1… passing a piece of folded paper back and forth between you and your friends to draw a new interesting creature. This time, try it with collage or make a flip book to come up with as many different combos as your imagination will allow!
November 16, 2013 – Button Making – Button making is a very successful CVS activity and fund-raiser for community groups. This session will help raise funds for the U of L Campus Food Bank. 1 button for $1 or 5 buttons for $3.
January 11, 2014 – Drawing with Yarn – We always draw with pencils, markers, or pens…but what about drawing with Y A R N?! Come and create a touchable drawing from one of our templates or from your own imagination.
February 8, 2014 – Printmaking – It’s an annual event for Lethbridgites from far and wide. Our printmaking techniques are quick to learn and are easy for everyone. Come and see the results of those ideas that have been floating around in your head since last year!
March 15, 2014 – Leave Your Mark – Now, who doesn’t like finger painting? Leave your personal mark on a page or two to create paintings that you can take home without having to worry about the mess or the cleanup!
April 12, 2014 – Button Making – It’s our usual button making sesh, this time we are raising money for YWCA Lethbridge! Buttons are $1 each or 5 for $3.
May 10, 2014 – Drip-Dyed Landscapes – Come and try to make a landscape painting with coffee filters!
June 7, 2014 – Paper Marbling – While traditional printmaking is fun, this might be even fun-er! This printing technique uses shaving cream to create interesting swirls and designs on paper that you can either keep as art or use as stationary.
* Except Button Making Activity
CVS Activity and Main Gallery Open 10 am – 5 pm
All activities are in the U of L Centre for the Arts Main Atrium unless noted otherwise
The University of Lethbridge Art Gallery is open one Saturday per month for Culture Vulture Saturdays from September through June each year. In addition to providing an option to view the exhibition outside of our regular hours, these special Saturdays feature a hands-on art making activity related to the exhibition. The activities are geared to be flexible for all ages from kindergarten through to adults.
All materials are supplied, admission is free, and no booking is required. For button making there is a charge for making the buttons, however, in addition to off-setting the cost of materials, the remaining money is donated to various philanthropic organizations.
People are welcome to just view the exhibition or to also try the activity.
