The Food Speaker Series is organized by the Centre for Culture and Community and the University of Lethbridge Art Gallery.

Lisa Doolittle
“Feedback: Movable Feast – creating a performance about food”
Food is fundamental. It’s at the heart of both festivals and disasters. Eating – or not eating – warps both body image and global geographies. All of our lives are linked through the production and consumption of food. Movable Feast seeks to make those links come alive in performance, questioning the many politicized claims made about food, as we evoke visceral audience responses with movement, story, light, and sound. Doolittle and some of the performers will present brief sections of the production–in-progress and engage in a dialogue about their ideas and your responses to them. Your feedback will affect how we develop aspects of the final production.

Josephine Mills
“Seed Pods, Pizza, and the Art Gallery”
Mills will discuss the Food Series of exhibitions at the U of L Art Gallery this fall including the recent visit by DodoLab to survey the campus and create the soon to be famous Lethbridge pizza.

Tiffany Muller Myrdahl
“The Engaged Eater: community food mapping”
Food security is defined as the availability of, and access to, food that is nutritious, safe, culturally appropriate, and produced in environmentally sustainable ways. This is a lot to think about when you’re making a grocery list! This presentation will encourage participants to actively think about the food security in their own communities through collective food mapping exercises. We will consider food production, local access, consumption, and waste as we develop an approach to engaged eating.
