The University of Lethbridge Alumni Association Distinguished Alumnus/a of the Year Award recognizes individuals for exceptional professional achievements, academic excellence and/or contributions to society.
Kathryn Preuss first earned her reputation for academic excellence as a student at the University of Lethbridge where she was actively involved in research at the undergraduate level. After graduating with distinction in 1995, Preuss completed a PhD in inorganic chemistry at the University of Waterloo. She is currently an associate professor at the University of Guelph,
Preuss works in materials science, an interdisciplinary field applying the properties of matter to various areas of science and engineering. Often cited as an expert in the field, her research centres around materials essential to low-power data storage, sensors and other adaptive technologies. Preuss currently holds a Tier II Canada Research Chair in the Chemistry of Molecular Materials.
Dr. Kathryn Preuss will be honoured for her outstanding academic achievements at the fall 2012 convocation ceremony.
Established in 1989 by the University of Lethbridge Alumni Association, the Alumnus/Alumna of the Year Award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement or who have achieved an international reputation in their chosen field.
